When faced with the mystery and uncertainty of autism, both parents and children alike can sometimes feel as if they are viewing life from the inside a puzzle. It's hard to find all of the pieces and even harder still to put them in the right place. Whether you're missing one of the pieces (information, advocacy, support) or just trying to find out where they all fit together, those of us here at “The A.C.T.I.V.E. Kids Foundation” understand what that can be like, and we're here to help by offering family support meetings, assistance with advocacy claims, and an occasional fun day away from the stress and worries that come with being both a “special needs” child and a "special needs" parent.
Autism is a lifelong disorder that is increasingly prevalent in today's youth. Since 1983 it has risen in diagnosis at a startling rate from 1 in every 10,000 children, to 1 in every 150 children. There is no single known cause or cure for autism, and symptoms typically appear before the third year of life. While more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than AIDS, diabetes, and cancer combined, it receives less than 5% of the research funding allocated to those diseases.
The A.C.T.I.V.E. Kids Foundation operates in the Northeastern Oklahoma area(Green County) and serves the Wagoner, Mayes, and Rogers communities. However, we are not limitied in our scope and can serve other nearby areas as well. We are always open to new and exciting ways in which we can help those in need, from fundraisers to raisng fun.
